Pet Portraits Melbourne and Australia-wide
Priceless, One-of-a-Kind Pet Paintings
I’m Monica Smith, the artist behind Noah’s Ark Paintings in Melbourne. I create custom oil pet portraits from your favourite photographs, capturing the character and personality of dogs, cats, horses and other much-loved pets. Pet portrait commissions are available across Melbourne and Australia-wide.
Pet Portrait Painter
I create custom pet portraits from photographs for clients in Melbourne and across Australia. Dogs, cats, horses, birds and other animals can all be painted in oils, creating an original portrait that captures the individual character of your pet.
Pet portraits can celebrate a much-loved companion, make a personal gift or provide a lasting tribute to a pet that has passed away. If you're unsure which photograph will work best, I can help you choose a suitable image for your portrait.
Our dog portrait service is particularly popular, and you can view pet portrait sizes and prices before commissioning your painting.
Wildlife Portraits
Coming from a family of animal lovers, it was a natural progression for me from painting our pets to painting wildlife. I love watching the interaction of animals in the wild. How a small bird will stand up to a predator like a falcon in futile defence of one of its own.
The loyalty and bravery of animals in situations when their own lives or wellbeing is under threat, is something that touches deep into my heart and hopefully the majority of the human race.
I hope I can convey the love I feel for animals and wildlife through my paintings.
Animals have always been a part of my life. My very earliest memories are of cats, dogs, chickens and rabbits, In fact, I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t an animal of some description sharing the lives of my family. I, therefore, combined my love of art and skills as a painter and launched this pet portrait from photos service. Our dog portrait service is very popular as is our cat portrait painting option.
People Portraits
I love people and animals, anything that breathes (even blowflies and ants!!). As an artist, I’m drawn to faces, the eyes in particular. I find them fascinating.
When I’m in a shopping centre, walking on the beach or riding on public transport, I can’t help staring at a particular face thinking how lovely it would be to paint.
Animals are something I can paint anytime as they’re a great love of my life and every pet I paint leaves its stamp on my heart. However, I also enjoy adding variety to my work by painting people.

Monica is a very talented artist who is genuinely passionate about capturing the essence and personality of each individual animal in her beautiful art. She provided frequent updates with photos and actively sought my input on the finer details of the painting to ensure the finished product was perfect. I cannot recommend a better artist than Monica to paint your special pet or loved one!!!

Scratchboard Art
Scratchboard art is a form of engraving. The board surface is a medium made up of three layers. The layers include a Masonite panel covered with smooth, white clay and the final section is a thin layer of India Ink. The result is a solid black surface to start the engraving.
As a scratchboard artist, I use various tools to scratch through the black surface to reveal the white clay below. Every stroke is created by hand with lines, dots and tonal variations determined by how many lines are scratched in a particular area or how much white clay is exposed. The end results are stunning black and white animal portraits.
I’m a member of The International Society of Scratchboard Artists
